Who Can Travel to the United States Without a Visa?

Visa-free entry to the U.S. is available to only 40 countries participating in the visa waiver program. Entry into the United States for persons with a European Union passport is also available on a visa waiver basis. The exceptions are citizens of Bulgaria, Romania and Cyprus.

Therefore, the best way to be able to travel in comfort and without having to deal with visa application or renewal bureaucracies is by obtaining a European passport.

The purpose of travel to the US under the visa waiver program must be in accordance with the B-1/B-2 visa: tourism, business meetings, or treatment at local medical facilities. You can travel around the country, visit friends or relatives, attend trainings and conferences. To study or work in the United States, entry into the country under the program is prohibited.

Before you can travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program, you must obtain permission to enter the country through the Electronic System for Authorization (ESTA). To obtain a permit, you need to go to the platform, fill out a form, and pay a $14 fee.

Requirements for a citizen of a Visa Waiver country:

  1. No criminal record.
  2. No previous refusal to enter the United States.
  3. Passport holder with electronic chip
  4. No trips to Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen since March 1, 2011.
  5. The purpose of the trip to the USA is tourism, business meetings, or transit.
  6. You have obtained an electronic authorization to enter the USA under the ESTA system.
  7. A return ticket or other evidence of leaving the US on time.
